This happen over two years ago. I was driving in To Reno,NV.I was going down Dawner Pass on I 80 east. I was talking on the CB to some drivers, when a young driver keyed up and ask me where I was I told him. Then another driver key up again and as me if I was a woman. I was shocked because I sound like a woman and I am a girly girly. I key up and told him, ‘he come take a look for them self to see if I was a woman.I was laughing so hard at this time because of what they ask. I found out after I got to the TA in Reno, NV That the trainer was sleeping and the younger gentlemen I talk to first was a student. The trainer woke up from my voice and he ask the student where that voice was coming from because he wanted to see me. He saw me and and we drove down the mountain together.
He told me when we stop that his student said I was a man. They agreed for a while in the truck if I was a man or not. IUntil they came up and saw me. I was laughing so hard about it. I thought it was so funny. We all became friends after that and the trainer and I started dating. I think this was a the crazies thing that has happen to me on the road.

I drove for oneof the larger “Driver Mills” who had Q-com directions. In my opinion, GET YOURSELF A GPS with trucker software, so’s to miss low overpasses and non- commercial roads that are not specified with normal GPS. The directions I used to recieve from q-com from that company were wrong at LEAST 40% of the time. These morons would route you under low overpasses and get you lost more often than not. Calling ahead to the customer was better than company directions, but sometimes I’d get a dummy whose directions made me wonder how he/she got to work and home each day.

i am a 65 year old driver and in my experience from starting to drive from the age of 19 untill now and who owned my own equipment for the past 25 years,is a little bit different from the other little tales i have read.when i started there was no such thing as log books or regulations or gps.as matter of fact i don’t know if i could even follow one of those gadget. the dispatcher didn’t know either.and nobody else did either. so all we needed was a MAP.pretty simple and with it i went all over canada, and most of the united states, and i always came back home.there was no stupid regulation like there is now like d.o.t people which i never liked, like there is now who are trying to tell you how trucking is done and as matter of fact i still do it MY way.i sleep when i need to and i eat when i need to and it is none of their business. i am not showing of, but 1 year i drove 160,000 miles and i also had to have an operation for kidney stones.was off work for over 1 month, and i am still doing it the same way.and am damn proud to do it like that, and not today’s way cause they don’t want us to be real truck drivers anymore. i am a truck driver from the past and proud of it. yours truly.

The other day I was coming in to Atlanta from Jackson, MS, and was flashed for the millionth time in my career. We’ve all seen them: the guys ( and girls! ) who show you what they’ve got in all their “nekkid glory,” right? I just want to know what makes a man wake up on a Sunday morning and say to himself, ” Hmmm, I think I’ll drive around I-285 and show people my pecker! “? LOL!

Mine is not that funny but dangerous. I was driving to Sevierville, TN, with mom and dad with me. I had to enter a two-way road after getting off from the highway. As I usually feel comfortable driving on the left lane, and because I cannot stand driving under 70mph I went and switch to the left lane right away. I did not realize that the road was split so I kept driving on the left side of the road until, I would say by instinct, I noticed that the yellow line was there for a purpose. I was lucky enough to notice this right before a curve was approaching, and even worse, a truck and SUV were coming at a very fast pace one after other.
My dad, a very experienced driver, was shocked, and my mom, who did not stop talking all the way from New York to Tennessee because of the long driving, got mute for a long period of time. And even I thought of the incident over and over. This kind of events leave traces in your mind to the point that they become nightmares or traumas, and you never do the same thing again, for sure.
I hope this scary tale makes you have some flashbacks about your craziest and most dangerous driving experiences. It has been a pleasure sharing it with you.

Greetings to all, I’d like a little feedback on this situation. My closest friend had been driving for as someone put it “one of those driver mills” FIrst this is a 50 year old man , not a twiddle brained 20 year old, he’s driven all over the county (box truck) with a company that designs and builds amusement parks, (six flags, dollywood etc)
    ANYWAY ..
It was bad enough when he did all his training in Florida on a designated route , which had him and his trainer only running 11 hours out of 24 , not exactly great hours for two men. It took 3 months to get all the training hours in. Of course its time to come home get change of season clothes etc…but ohh no…Hes not supposed to want to come home even to get money . We’ll he did make it home due to a doctor appointment. After which he’s assigned the “southeast” territory and is sent to WIsconsin to get his truck(no wonder the dispatchers cant figure out readable directions)…..BUT hes supposed to get there on a bus with all his equipment in tow. My son ends up driving him from Kentucky to WIsconsin. Now this company is supposed to reemburse all travel expense not exceeding the price of a bus ticket..HECk I’d like to see even that much reembursed!!. This truck was a piece of junk , the former driver said there was a problem with the electrical system and there had been 3 starters replaced in the prior 2 months . It was way beyond that . ..Every couple of days hes had to call road repair to give him a jump, the situation got so bad that he was not ever turning the truck off!!, Then his dispatcher wants to know …WHY his gas usage is so bad……FIX THE DARN TRUCK!! IT ends up in shops in at least 6 states, ohh its bad batteries, its the starter, its this or it might be that , they’d put a bandaid on it and then back in the road…this company would not pay to FIX it, just get it patched and back on the road…
After being trained in Florida and given the southeast territory , his runs mostly stayed in the midwest…not to bad , all in all, until this company begins their plan to get rid of drivers and hire more (and very cheaply paid) trainees . He’s sent to West Virginia, Washington, Pennsylvania and New York, during the worst snow storm in 70 years. This company gets pissed because he stopped after dark and he couldn’t tell where the road was, even though they had already had reports or 6 of their trucks overturned!
During this storm he breaks down just inside a truck stop and hes told it will take 2 days to get a tow truck to him to tow him 2 miles to the shop…they showed up in 3 ~ and then the company said they didnt want the truck towed they wanted him to drive if he could get the truck to move….he made after getting it jumped and the rear end out, only took 3 hours to go 2 miles..
HE got stuck in snow a total of 2 times and then hit a street light in a snow bank, the officer was very gracious about it (thank heaven) but said it was NOT the first time that a driver from this company had hit the same light ( a turn that cant be made) and that this company had been notified SEVERAL times NOT to send drivers on that route…well wanna guess who still gets the blame…sure wasn’t the dispatcher who sent the directions!
NOw I used to work at a store where we had a lot of truckers shopping and I’ve heard the talk. This is a bad company and from day one I knew what was going to happen….theres just no way with this many trainees that they are going to get hired…so its find a way to make the guys so miserable they quit or find a reason they can be fired..Four days before his insurance can kick in he has to have the truck repaired yet again , and as he’s getting ready to leave the yard, the guard stops him and tells him “safety” wants to talk to him and then hes told he’s fired……and has 24 hours to be off the truck ……800 miles from home….but ohh they’ll give him a bus ticket and he can put his gear in storage and has a week to have it gone too…So take the seats out of my van and go pick him up….He’s still waiting for reembursement on 3 trips taking him to his training , to pick up his truck and home(i’m out well over $500 in gas ), plus 13 days of motel stays while the truck was in repair shops that is on his credit card. I of the mind to take this bunch to court, but he’s more patient than I am..He thinks they will come thru . Now I’m sure theres not much doubt what this company is , I’d like to know if anyone else has had any kind of similiar experience and if they got any satisfaction ..please email me at fairytale54@yahoo.com
